Where Are Coach Bags Made

Coach, Coach bags, Coach handbags, Coach manufacturing, Coach authenticity, vintage Coach, designer bags

Coach is an American brand with New York roots, but modern Coach products are manufactured through a global supply chain. In its fiscal 2026 Form 10-K, Tapestry says the primary manufacturers of Coach products were located in Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, and India.

That is the clearest current answer. It also needs one important limit: Tapestry is talking about Coach products as a whole, not handbags alone. The filing does not say that every Coach bag comes from those four countries.

If you are checking a bag you own or want to buy, look at the country-of-origin label on that item. The manufacturing country is useful context, but it does not prove that a Coach bag is authentic or counterfeit.

Where are Coach bags made today?

The latest official source is Tapestry's fiscal 2026 Form 10-K. It names four primary manufacturing locations for Coach products.

Country

What the current evidence supports

Vietnam

Primary manufacturing location for Coach products in fiscal 2026

Cambodia

Primary manufacturing location for Coach products in fiscal 2026

Philippines

Primary manufacturing location for Coach products in fiscal 2026

India

Primary manufacturing location for Coach products in fiscal 2026

China

Important in Coach's past, but not on the fiscal 2026 primary list

United States

Central to Coach's early history, but not on the current primary list

Tapestry does not give a country-by-country split for Coach handbags. It also does not say what share of Coach bags is made in each country.

The filing does not link a Tabby, Cassie, Willow, tote, or any other style to one fixed country. For one specific bag, the country-of-origin label inside the bag is a better place to start.

Are Coach bags made in China?

China has a real place in Coach's production history.

Tapestry's fiscal 2020 Form 10-K listed Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, and mainland China as the primary manufacturing locations for Coach products. China is not on the same list in the fiscal 2026 filing.

That matters because many older pages still describe China as a primary current Coach manufacturing base. The latest filing does not support that claim.

It also does not say that Coach has stopped all production in China. Tapestry still has a wider global supplier and sourcing network. The safer conclusion is that China's role in Coach's primary production network has changed.

If an older Coach bag carries a "Made in China" origin label, that alone is not a red flag. China was a legitimate Coach manufacturing country. You still need to evaluate the bag by its age, model, markings, construction, and other details.

Are Coach bags made in Vietnam?

Yes. Vietnam is one of the main locations named for Coach products in Tapestry's fiscal 2026 filing.

What we do not have is a Coach handbag percentage for Vietnam. So it would be misleading to say that a set share of Coach bags is made there.

A Coach bag with a valid Vietnamese country-of-origin label can fit the brand's current production network. The label itself still does not prove that the bag is authentic.

What about Cambodia, the Philippines, and India?

Cambodia, the Philippines, and India are also on Tapestry's fiscal 2026 list for Coach products.

The filing does not tell us that one of these countries makes only certain bag types. It does not say that the Philippines handles special stitching, that Cambodia is used for certain trims, or that India is reserved for premium leather bags.

Those claims may sound precise, but the public sources we checked do not support them.

For a bag in front of you, use its country-of-origin marking rather than guessing from the style name.

Was Coach originally made in the USA?

Yes. Coach began in New York, and its early production was tied to the United States.

The official Coach history says the house was founded in New York in 1941 by six artisans. The brand later grew under Lillian and Miles Cahn.

Coach's leather story also became linked with Glovetanned leather, which the brand describes as soft and durable like its namesake baseball glove.

Coach did not move from US production to overseas production on one clear date. The change happened over time.

By fiscal 2005, Coach said all of its product needs were supplied by outside makers. Its fiscal 2005 Form 10-K named countries such as China, Italy, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and others.

The same filing said about 98% of Coach's non-licensed product needs came from outside the United States at that time. That gives us a firm point in the timeline without inventing a single date for the move overseas.

This is why vintage and modern Coach bags can carry very different country-of-origin labels. A US-made vintage bag and a later bag made in Asia can both fit Coach's history.

Is Coach an American brand?

Yes. Coach is an American fashion house founded in New York.

The home of a brand and the place where a bag is made are not the same thing. Coach can keep its American identity while working with makers in Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, India, and other countries over time.

If you are deciding how Coach compares with other designer labels, our look at Coach's luxury position separates brand position, price, materials, and market reach from the country of production.

How can you tell where your Coach bag was made?

Start by examining the inside of the bag.

Manufacturing information may appear on a sewn label, fabric tag, creed or story patch, or another inner product label. The exact placement and format can vary by model and production period.

Older Coach bags do not always use the same marks as newer retail or outlet pieces. Small leather goods and special releases can also differ.

That is why a single online rule for creed patches, serial numbers, or factory codes can be misleading. There is no one format that covers every genuine Coach item.

The country-of-origin label states the manufacturing origin claimed for that item. It does not tell you where every piece of leather or hardware came from, and it is not an authentication certificate.

Does the country of manufacture tell you if a Coach bag is authentic?

No. The country of manufacture alone cannot tell you if a Coach bag is authentic.

Coach has used manufacturers in several countries over many years. A genuine older bag may have an origin that is not on today's primary list.

A fake can also copy a legitimate country-of-origin name, creed, style number, or label. So rules such as "Made in China means fake," "every real Coach bag has a serial number," or "Coach only uses one zipper brand" are not reliable.

If authenticity is your main concern, evaluate the whole bag and check whether its details are consistent with the model and production period. Our Coach authenticity guide covers that question in more depth.

For a pre-owned purchase, it also helps to understand resale authentication.

How does Coach make products across different countries?

Coach now works through a global manufacturing and supplier network rather than relying on one production base.

In its supply-chain disclosures, Tapestry says it contracts directly with manufacturers for most products across its brands. Brand design teams set the design and product specs. Sourcing teams choose raw materials and request samples.

Tapestry's operations teams in Asia then plan production and track progress. The company says these teams also check quality needs and standard procedures.

This gives Coach control over design and quality without suggesting that every bag is made in a Coach-owned factory.

It also shows why a "Made in" label tells only part of the story. Leather, hardware, final assembly, and shipping can involve different firms and places.

Where does Coach get its leather?

The country where a bag is made is not the same as the source of its leather.

Coach and Tapestry disclose leather-sourcing and traceability work that includes tanneries assessed through the Leather Working Group system.

What the public sources do not support is a broad claim that Coach leather comes from Italy. A bag may pass through several stages before it is finished, and each stage can involve a different place.

If you already own a leather Coach bag, storage and cleaning will affect how it ages. These leather bag care steps cover the basics.

Buying or selling a pre-owned Coach bag

In resale, the country of manufacture is one clue. It should never be the whole decision.

An older USA-made or China-made Coach bag can be genuine. A newer bag made in Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, or India can also fit Coach's documented network. The age, model, markings, condition, and authenticity still need to make sense together.

Condition also changes what buyers may pay. Wear to leather, corners, structure, hardware, or the lining can separate two bags of the same style. Our breakdown of condition and resale explains why.

If you already own a Coach bag and are considering resale, see the options for selling Coach bags.

If you are buying, you can buy designer products and judge each piece on its own details rather than relying on one manufacturing label.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Coach bags made now?

Tapestry says the primary manufacturers of Coach products in fiscal 2026 were in Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, and India. The filing covers Coach products as a whole and does not give a separate handbag-only split.

Are Coach bags made in China?

China is a documented historical manufacturing country for Coach and was still on the primary list in fiscal 2020. It is not on Tapestry's fiscal 2026 primary manufacturing list for Coach products.

Is a Coach bag made in Vietnam authentic?

It can be. Vietnam is a current primary manufacturing location for Coach products. A Vietnam label alone, however, cannot prove that one individual bag is authentic.

Are Coach bags still made in the USA?

Coach has a well-documented US and New York manufacturing history. The United States is not on Tapestry's fiscal 2026 list of primary locations for Coach products.
